Ivan Black
British sculptor
Ivan is a self-taught British sculptor, born in London in 1972. He began making sculptures at an early age and movement quickly became central to his work.
Ivan uses his own unique methodology to create works that mutate upon the introduction of energy, inventing in the process a number of mechanical templates that allow his sculptures to move in unique and fascinating ways. Through a combination of geometry and motion, Ivan’s work explores his fascination with the mathematics that governs and defines the natural world, combining mathematical concepts with the pioneering spirit of British engineering to create a synergy between art, science and technology. His work has been exhibited around the world including in public installations in China, Australia, USA and the UK. His work can be found in many important private collections and he has worked for corporate clients including Adobe, Nobu and McLaren.
